The Cleveland Cavaliers took on the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night after nice, long holiday weekend. Cleveland definitely has to shake off the rust and got off to a slow start but came back to take the 113-110.

Here are a few observations made from the victory.

1. Craig Porter Jr.’s Early Aggressiveness

Craig Porter Jr. has really taken off since being propelled into the Cavaliers’ starting lineup. He’s always been calm and strategic with his playmaking, but Porter demonstrated a newfound aggressiveness against the Mavericks.

Cleveland’s starting point guard attempted 11 field goals and shot 36% from the floor finishing with nine points.

2. Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen Lead The Way

Caris LeVert finished with 29 points while Jarrett Allen scored 24 points and grabbed 23 boards. These two took complete control of the game in the fourth quarter leading the Cavaliers to a victory.

Evan Mobley and Darius Garland are still going to be out for a while which means J.B. Bickerstaff will continue to lean on this duo for the next month.

3. Luka Doncic Is Good

This one doesn’t take a second look to see that Luka Doncic is good. Like, really good.

Doncic finished with 39 points against the Cavaliers and more impressively shot an efficient 48% (14-29) from the field. Sometimes you just have to appreciate your opponent and the legacy they’re leaving on the game.

4. No Quit Cavs

The Cavs found themselves down 20 points in the first half while Seth Curry and Doncic rained threes. There were many reasons for Cleveland to sleepwalk their way to the finish line, but they didn’t.

LeVert, Allen, and company kept clawing their way and eventually took the lead with less than three minutes to go in the fourth quarter and never looked back. The resilience in this group must be commended.
